The primary oocytes begin meiosis but are arrested at the diplotene state until OVULATION at PUBERTY to give rise to haploid secondary oocytes or ova (OVUM).,FMA: Germ cell of the female sex.,UWDA: Germ cell of the female sex.,NCI: The female gamete, germ cells in stages between the prophase of the first maturation division and the completion of the second maturation division.
