The BALB/c mouse develops plasmacytomas upon injection with mineral oil, which form the mouse cell component of the mouse-human hybrid cells that are used in the production of monoclonal antibodies. This strain exhibits excellent breeding performance and a long life span which contribute to its being one of the most highly utilized of all available mouse strains.
