MSH: A low-molecular-weight (approx. 10 kD) protein occurring in the cytoplasm of kidney cortex and liver. It is rich in cysteinyl residues and contains no aromatic amino acids. Metallothionein shows high affinity for bivalent heavy metals.,CSP: low molecular weight protein occurring in the cytoplasm of kidney cortex and liver; rich in cysteinyl residues and contains no aromatic amino acids; shows high affinity for bivalent heavy metals.,NCI: Enzymes that use cysteine residues to transport metals such as copper and zinc throughout the body. The native polypeptide is found in abundant levels in the kidney cortex and liver.
