MSH: A genus of small, two-winged flies containing approximately 900 described species. These organisms are the most extensively studied of all genera from the standpoint of genetics and cytology.,NCI: A genus of small, American flies, Diptera. The best known species is D. Melanogaster, often called the fruit fly, but more correctly termed the vinegar fly. First investigated by T.H.Morgan and his group, it has been extensively used in genetic studies.
