Source:http://linkedlifedata.com/resource/umls/id/C0003693

MSH: An enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of arachidonic acid to yield 5-hydroperoxyarachidonate (5-HPETE) which is rapidly converted by a peroxidase to 5-hydroxy-6,8,11,14-eicosatetraenoate (5-HETE). The 5-hydroperoxides are preferentially formed in leukocytes.,NCI: Arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase protein (674 aa, ~78 kDa) is encoded by the human ALOX5 gene. This protein plays a role in the synthesis of leukotrienes from arachidonic acid; thus, it mediates both inflammation and allergen responses.
