CSP: group of peptide antibiotic agents, isolated from several species of Streptomyces (originally Actinomyces), that are active against gram positive bacteria, fungi, and neoplasms; they form complexes with DNA and therefore inhibit RNA synthesis, primarily the ribosomal type.,NCI: A chromopeptide antineoplastic antibiotic isolated from the bacterial genus Streptomyces. Actinomycin antibiotics inhibit DNA replication and RNA and protein synthesis by various mechanisms such as intercalating into the minor groove of DNA and interfering with the function of topoisomerase II.
