pubmed-article:7862240 | pubmed:abstractText | Transesophageal echocardiography becomes widely used in patients suspected of cerebral embolism. This examination is characterized by higher than transthoracic echocardiography sensitivity for detection of left atrial thrombus. Patent foramen ovale and atrial septal aneurysm have been recognized more often in patients with embolic stroke than in control group. Another potential source of embolism is aortic atheroma especially when protruding or ulcerated. Transesophageal echocardiography allows for identification of embolic source in more than 50% of examined patients. | lld:pubmed |
