pubmed-article:11570782pubmed:abstractTextThe implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) represents an important advance in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias, but infection has remained a serious complication of device implantation. Fungal infections associated with these devices are uncommon, with only 4 cases previously reported. We describe a case of ICD-associated endocarditis caused by Candida albicans that was successfully treated with complete device explantation and prolonged antifungal therapy, and we review the features of ICD-related fungal infections.lld:pubmed
