All primary tumor had received high dose external radiation or brachytherapy, using iridium-192 sources. In 6 patients the complication was triggered, shortly before or after irradiation, by surgical interventions such as tooth extraction, or by the presence of an infected focus in the mandible. The complications were treated conservatively, including 2 cases by hyperbaric oxygen. The value of prevention is emphasized. | lld:pubmed |
