Goals and possible indications are listed and the mode of application described. Information of the traveller by the physician is time consuming but very important for the correct use of stand-by therapy. The central message is the instruction to visit a doctor within 12 to 25 hours after intake of stand-by therapy, to avoid the risk of missing other diseases with similar symptoms.
