pubmed-article:6777139 | pubmed:abstractText | It is known that some children produce parietal spikes, evoked by tactile stimulation to their feet or other parts of their bodies. This paper investigates whether this curious phenomenon remains with the children unchanged for several years and then disappears or whether it has an evolution towards epilepsy. It has been found that 36% of the subjects, who showed a normal EEG in the first examination, developed a spontaneous focus of spikes during their sleep or waking period; during a period of up to 3 years 16% of the children present a clinical state represented by seizures. In conclusion, it is felt that the cause of this condition may be due to hyperexcitability of a small cortical parietal area. | lld:pubmed |
