pubmed-article:17888656 | pubmed:abstractText | A natural polymer, chitosan, was modified to prepare an efficient flocculant using grafting method initiated by gamma ray in acid-water solution. A vinyl monomer, acrylamide, was used as the grafted monomer. The graft copolymer obtained was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Effects of acetic acid concentration, total irradiation dose, dose rate and monomer concentration on the grafting percentage were investigated. Flocculation experiment results demonstrated that the graft copolymer produced was significantly superior to chitosan and polyacrylamide (PAM). | lld:pubmed |
