pubmed-article:1374858pubmed:abstractTextPre-embedding immunocytochemistry with antiserum to neurotensin was combined with post-embedding immunocytochemistry with GABA antiserum, in order to identify neurotensin- and GABA-containing neurons in laminae I-III of rat spinal dorsal horn. The distribution of cell bodies containing these two compounds was similar to that which has been described previously. None of the 88 neurotensin-immunoreactive neurons which were tested showed GABA-like immunoreactivity, which suggests that GABA and neurotensin exist in different cells in this region. Since both compounds are thought to be present in islet cells, it is likely that there are two neurochemically distinct populations of islet cells in lamina II of rat spinal cord.lld:pubmed
