pubmed-article:12712616 | pubmed:abstractText | Over the period 1998-2001 a total of 78 patients with III to IV stage carcinoma of the pancreas complicated by jaundice underwent symptomatic and palliative operations. In all patients, the diagnosis was verified histologically with the aid of intraoperative fine-needle biopsy, incision biopsy or in the postoperative period marked by appearance of metastases in the liver--by progressive rise in the CA19-9 marker level. In the postoperative period, immunochemotherapy with the drug amitosine was instituted. Median survival of patients came up to more than 8 months. In four patients, median survival was 38 months. | lld:pubmed |
