MSH: Small sensory organs which contain gustatory receptor cells, basal cells, and supporting cells. Taste buds in humans are found in the epithelia of the tongue, palate, and pharynx. They are innervated by the CHORDA TYMPANI NERVE (a branch of the facial nerve) and the GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL NERVE.,CSP: sensory organs embedded in the epithelium of the tongue that contain bundles of taste receptor cells, supporting cells, and basal cells; each receptor cell is innervated at its base by an afferent nerve fiber.,NCI: An oval body that is located in a tongue papilla and occupies the entire thickness of the epithelium. It is composed of neuroepithelial (sensory) cells, supporting cells, and basal cells. The opening at the apex of the taste bud is called taste pore.
