UMD: Clamps designed to compress anatomic structures and/or to bring together several isolated objects by pressing, fastening, or binding them firmly during dental procedures. They are typically handheld, manual instruments including two parts pivoted at the center, finished in blunt (i.e., atraumatic) distal ends. Dedicated dental clamps are used to hold rubber dams and gingival tissue.
