UMD: Surgical forceps designed to grasp and manipulate during laparoscopic procedures. These forceps are typically handheld instruments with scissor-like handles that may include a ratchet mechanism; a long slender shaft, and a single- or double-action distal tip, and rotating jaws (e.g., duck-bill, alligator) controlled by a knob on the handle. Laparoscopic forceps are introduced through a laparoscope in the abdominal or pelvic cavities to grasp internal structures to facilitate observation, excision, or biopsy procedures.
