MSH: Information systems, usually computer-assisted, designed to store, manipulate, and retrieve information for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling administrative activities associated with the provision and utilization of ambulatory care services and facilities.,UMD: Data management information systems designed to provide clinical and administrative information related to hospital services provided to patients on an ambulatory (i.e., outpatient) basis rather than upon admission to a healthcare facility. These systems include hardware and software capabilities to collect information from measuring devices (e.g., electronic sphygmomanometers), recorders (e.g., electrocardiographs), and other devices used during examination and/or treatment of patients. Ambulatory care data management information systems assist physicians in managing the prognosis and treatment of outpatients, including administrative tasks such as prescription drug recording and billing.
