Painful coitus often prevents sexual satisfaction. The symptom of dyspareunia presents special propblems for the patient and for the doctor. A family physician with sexual knowledge, self-awareness, and time to carefully counsel and examine the patient can adequately manage many patients with this complaint.Dealing with painful intercourse can be frustating and disappointing for the physician as well as the couple if the inseparable union of the psyche and the soma is not accepted.
