One of the roles of the CNS is consultant. As a consultant, the CNS assists organizations in program development and organizational change. A systematic framework for the development of a competency-based orientation program is provided in this article. Nursing consultants can apply this framework in developing a competency-based orientation program tailored to the health care institution's unique needs and resources.
