The only surgical intervention that interferes in the mechanism of an allergic rhinitis reaction, is the vidian neurectomy. The reported results are excellent, also in severe cases resistant to medical treatment. In the present report we describe the autonomic innervation of the nasal mucosa, the indications, techniques and results of vidian neurectomy. Intranasal techniques to diminish the hypertrophic tissues in cases of hyperttrophic rhinopathy are also discussed. Special attention is paid to cryosurgery of the inferior turbinate.
