PIP: The fibrinolytic activity in the endometrium was studied histochemically in 15 patients before the insertion of a copper intrauterine device and after at least 3 months with the device in situ. An increase in the individual fibrinolytic activity in the endometirum occurred in 10 of the patients, 2 showed no change and 3 showed a slight change. The increase was statistically significant (.05p.01). It was suggested that this mechanism can be the basis for assessing treatment with inhibitors of fibrinolysis, such as epsilonaminocaproic acid and tranexamic acid, when menorrhagia caused by an IUD occurs.
