Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition and/or angiotensin II type 1 receptor blockade attenuate renal damage. Rosiglitazone, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma agonist possessing antihypertensive and anti-inflammatory properties, was demonstrated to provide better renal protection than angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
