Although topical glucocorticoids are effective for most inflammatory skin disorders, their use is limited by local and systemic side effects. Tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are immunomodulators that provide clinicians with steroid-sparing options in the long-term topical treatment of allergic contact dermatitis.
