Scant attention has been given to theories and research on strategies that can be used to increase the power of social work units in educational, industrial, hospital, public welfare, and other settings that are dominated by other professions. In this article, a variety of strategy options are discussed that offer promise, singly and in in tandem, for increasing the funding and broadening the services of these units.
